John Levine’s plays have been produced throughout the United States, as well as in Australia, Canada, India, Mexico, the Philippines, and the U.K. His full-length play In The Picture was a finalist in the Writers Digest National Writing Contest, and received a staged reading by the Ross Valley Players. Wild Life Crossing received a staged reading at the Sonoma County Repertory Theatre and was also a semifinalist for the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild/Julie Harris Playwriting Award. Terra Firma received its first staged reading in New York City by New Media Repertory Theatre. His play Preoccupied received a staged reading by the Playwrights Lab of Mill Valley, CA. His play What We Know and What We Don't Know About It received a staged reading by Wordsmyth Theater in Houston, Texas.
Among his one-acts, “Green Room” and “Enemy Territory” were originally produced by Equinox Theatre Company in San Francisco. “Enemy Territory” was subsequently produced by Twelve Miles West Theatre in Montclair, New Jersey. His short one-woman play “What You’re Missing” received its premiere at the Actors Theatre of Santa Cruz County Eight Tens at Eight Festival. “All That’s Good” premiered at the Stagecrafters Short Play Festival in Michigan and was subsequently produced by Custom Made Theatre as part of the Bay One Acts Festival in San Francisco, by New Media Repertory Theatre in New York, and by Artists Exchange in Providence, Rhode Island. "Enter Mac, DS" and "In The Open" were presented by Core Artists Ensemble at NYC's Barrow Group. His one-act “Here’s That Rainy Day” was produced by the Bay One Acts, and went on to a run at San Francisco’s Boxcar Theatre. New Media Rep has produced several of his one-acts, including “You and Me and She and I,” “Single Single,” and “Work in Progress,” all debuting off-off Broadway. "You and Me and She and I" was also produced as part of Hurricane Season by the Eclectic Company Theatre of Los Angeles, where it was awarded second place for best script of the festival. John’s work has been published in a number of anthologies. He lives in Berkeley, California, with his wife and daughter and teaches at the University of California. He is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild. His short film “Human Resources” is currently making the film festival circuit. |
